ChaseTheLasers wrote:Hi Tyr Just wanted to say how awesome Fanfest 2011 was organised. It was my first visit to Iceland and I couldn't fault the entire experience. If any of you are thinking about going but are a bit hesitant, I can't begin to tell you how welcoming Iceland and CCP were to everyone there. It was a weird experience walking around in what 'felt' like a station, with players from all corps and alliances talking, having a laugh and enjoying beer despite any in game differences there may have been. Devs were very receptive and were happy to talk about even the most geeky of things to anyone. Not once did I see any staff member try and shrug things off, even when there was a disagreement. I know that it's easy for forum warriors to blast devs on here, but the professionalism shown by staff members was incredible; even giving up seats when lecture halls were full to players. I hope the new place is kitted out in the same way - everything from the lighting in the lifts to the Quafe bars was perfect for the feel of the place. Just two minor suggestions though: The level of theft at the coat rails was huge when the party happened at the last place. There were none before it was opened up before the party, but we counted at least 20 people who had their stuff nicked, my friend included. Once guy sadly lost his Eve ships (2 IIRC) that he had brought from the shop Secondly, the shop desperately needed more stock. Most of the good stuff was sold out almost instantly and not restocked each day. Cheers Chase
Dear Chase, thank you for those kind words. We will continue to improve the Fanfest experience and moving to a new location will allow us to shake things up.
Regarding your suggestions, we will have improved security and have a staffed cloak room and I will tell those EVE Store guys to stock it good. If not, you just have to rush to the store to get the all the hawt stuff

Also, this made me happy in my pants: Devblog wrote: But with the explosive growth of Fanfest the last couple of years, and especially the Party at the Top of the World, I have decided to refocus the event on you, the attendees. More EVE stuff, exclusive Fanfest attendee treatment at the party, improved Pub Crawls, DUST 514 goodies and more.
Like that quote says: More EVE stuff |

Force her to come to Fanfest and renew your vows in Iceland. She can join the Sisters of EVE program. If you make an appearance on stage I will make sure you get a present from CCP |

Har Harrison wrote:So the FW round table will have CCP devs at it this time???
The lack of devs at the FW round table was a simple case of a dev no show. Sometimes these things can happen where personal or work related things can result in a person not being able to attend.
For Fanfest 2012 I will personally try my best to organize a new FW round table and have a dev attend.

Actually, since I started improving on Fanfest it has gradually stopped being a "pulsu party" like we call it in Iceland. More and more EVE players are also women and attend Fanfest. Plus many a player brings his spouse to Iceland with him.
Here is a local article about Fanfest 2011 with the headline: So, now we know where all the beautiful girls where last weekend.
Just check out the party pics in the Gallery.

Hirana Yoshida wrote:The entry called "And much more!" .. does that include round-tables where the participants are blue-balled by CCP?
Was a huge success last year so would be a shame not to repeat it .. forums still have open threads about it where silly stuff like chess boxing went away immediately after!
We will most definitely have round tables next year, as always. Harpa has 4 rooms that can serve very nicely as round tables. In the past we have only had 2 rooms (3 rooms FF11). But these rooms in Harpa are smaller, which has its pros and cons. A smaller room means less people that can attend (more rooms to try and compensate) but much more personal and a higher quality experience for participants.

Knug LiDi wrote:Knug LiDi wrote:Hopefully, Iceland Air flights from Canada will start the weekend of Fanfest, not the weekend after as happened this year. Iceland Air's summer schedule (which includes direct flights from Toronto and Halifax) started March 27, 2011.
Some of us are loathe to fly through the US, and would require direct flights.
Sadly, the decision to attend is entirely based on Iceland Air's scheduling. I'm looking forward to attending, but only if I can get there directly. Confirmed this morning.: Hello, YYZ service will start on 3/28/2012 (Toronto) YYH service will start on 6/7/2012 (Halifax) Regards Icelandair So the odds of me and guest attending is now not likely. Any chance of moving FanFest a few weeks later (into April) for 2013 ??
Easter is one of the reasons we have to do this in March because throwing an event close to or during Easter is not a good thing. Moving to close to summer in Iceland means high season in the tourist industry meaning higher prices on everything.
But, Easter is very early in 2013 so we might have to go April and that should be safe without hitting high season. This is at this point only speculation.
We can try our best to influence Icelandair to offer special Canada Fanfest flights but in the end of the day it is up to them of course.
Best regards, CCP Tyr
BTW: EVE is 10 years old 2013 :)
